Just like choosing the right oils is key to creating a soap recipe so is the choice of butters. The oil and butter combinations impacts the finished product.

Following is a list of butters I use most in soap and skin care products. This list will be updated, as needed, when new butters are added to the collection in Starseed products.

Avocado Butter

This butter has antioxidants and anti inflammatory agents that works to soothe skin irritations, acne and dry skin. It's healing properties help to restore the skin cells and it has been found effective when applied to skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

Beeswax

Beeswax forms a protective barrier on skin's surface which protects your skin from environmental irritants and harsh weather. Beeswax is non-comedogenic (non-pore blocking), allowing the skin to breathe freely. This makes beeswax beneficial for acne-prone and sensitive skin.

Cocoa Butter

Provides moisturizing and luxurious feeling to cold process soaps.

Cocoa butter can replenish skin's moisture and create a barrier to protect skin from moisture loss. This butter is said to be absorbed well without leaving skin greasy and helps skin maintain its elasticity and tone.

Kokum Butter

This butter helps boost the body's production of collagen and contains vitamins A, E and F, has anti-inflammatory properties, heals skin, and targets wrinkles. Kokum butter has moisturizing properties and won't clog pores. It is suggested for treatment of a number of skin issues, including acne, minor inflammatory conditions, and dry skin, hair, and scalp.

Mango Butter

This butter is helpful in preventing inflammation and itching caused by dry skin. It is an excellent source of triglycerides (a form of glycerin). These are fatty acids that work as emollients to soften the skin and prevent it from feeling dry and itchy.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is both luxurious and moisturizing on the skin and is said to have anti-inflammatory, soothing and healing properties.
